This helicopter activity takes place at the Rockies Heli Canada base in Clearwater County, with three flight lengths to choose from to discover the Canadian Rockies in Alberta from the air. Each option follows a different route, but all remain centered on the major mountains between Abraham Lake, the glaciers, and the mountain passes.

Before departure, the team presents the safety instructions and then provides the audio headset to follow the pilot’s commentary during the flight. Once in flight, the itinerary depends on the option booked. The return ends with a final panoramic view of Abraham Lake before landing back at the departure base.

The tour options in the Canadian Rockies offered

20 minutes: short option centered on Abraham Lake and the mountains in the area.

30 minutes: itinerary heading toward Wilson Icefield and Cline Pass, with an altitude of 9,000 ft / 2,900 m.

55 minutes: long option focused on Columbia Icefield, with flight over glaciers, alpine lakes, waterfalls, and peaks in the area.

What you see during the flight

The landscape changes depending on the option, but several places come up: Abraham Lake on the short flight, Wilson Icefield and Cline Pass on the 30-minute flight, then Columbia Icefield on the longest 55-minute option. On this last one, the flight over six glaciers and several peaks, including Purple Mountain, Mount Cline, Resolute Mountain, Mount Harlan, and Minster Mountain.
